Ryan Russell spent over 20 years at the intersection of complex data and mission-critical systems. Having worked on core infrastructure for Cerner, Epic, and the VA, he saw firsthand how predictive systems and standardized data protocols saved lives in healthcare.

But when he started his own professional grow operation, he found a massive technological gap. While healthcare had spent decades building robust data infrastructure, agriculture was still relying on anecdotal evidence and "grower's intuition."

The "Why"

Agriculture has always run on observation. A grower walks the room, looks at the leaves, and makes a judgment call. That system worked when operations were small and margins were wide. It does not work when you are managing thousands of plants across multiple rooms, when a single missed deficiency cascades through an entire batch, and when your competitors are optimizing every variable you are still eyeballing.

Healthcare solved this problem decades ago. Clinical systems do not wait for a doctor to notice something is wrong — they monitor continuously, flag deviations early, and log every intervention so outcomes can be measured and improved. Ryan spent 20 years building those systems. When he started his own grow operation, he looked for the equivalent and found nothing.
